Biology Faculty (Teaching Specialist or Lecturer)

Salary: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00
Application Deadline: N/A

The University of Minnesota Rochester (www.r.umn.edu) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in biology for its undergraduate degree program, the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS). The position is primarily teaching-focused with the expectation of contributing to departmental and institutional service (90% teaching, 10% service). This is a 9-month, annually renewable position.

We are seeking a qualified instructor who has significant interest in supporting student learning in a high-contact model inside and outside of the classroom and lab. This faculty member will work collaboratively and creatively with an established faculty team, teaching anatomy and physiology and introductory biology courses for health sciences undergraduate students. The successful instructor will have experience in implementing pedagogical strategies and supporting a diverse student body population as UMR has growing populations of students of color and first generation college students. The instructor should be prepared to teach undergraduate courses in biology and student focused courses in the Center for Learning Innovation, such as first-year Cornerstone or senior year Capstone courses, to support student success.

Duties include both collaborative and independent preparation and team-taught and individual delivery of course content in an interactive learning classroom and lab, assisting in preparing and teaching laboratory sessions, grading, holding weekly hours in the Just ASK tutoring center (https://r.umn.edu/academics-research/academic-resources/just-ask), assisting in ordering laboratory supplies, supervising undergraduate teaching assistants, facilitating department-wide data collection efforts that coincide with course delivery duties, participating in faculty governance, and other related duties as assigned.

The instructor will join the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI), an innovative, interdisciplinary department.  The CLI coordinates the development and teaching of an integrated, writing-enriched curriculum for a baccalaureate degree in the health sciences. It promotes a learner-centered, active undergraduate learning environment in which ongoing assessment informs pedagogical and curricular choices and is the basis for data-driven research on learning.

This position requires in-person instruction at the University of Minnesota Rochester campus in Rochester, MN. This position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship.
